After months of planning, playtesting the platform, and lining up mentors and hiring partners, we're thrilled to officially open registration for AlgoNation 2026 — India's national multi-stage hackathon for Computer Science and AI students. This is the moment a lot of you have been waiting for since we first teased the format back in February, and we want to use this post to walk through exactly what you're signing up for, why we built it this way, and what you need to do right now to secure a seat.
The problem AlgoNation exists to solve is a simple one: India produces hundreds of thousands of computer science graduates every year, and a meaningful fraction of them are genuinely excellent engineers. But most campus hackathons are small, isolated to a single college, and disconnected from the actual hiring market. You can win your college's internal hackathon and still have nothing concrete to show a recruiter outside your own campus. We wanted to build something different — a national-scale, multi-round competition that tests real engineering skills under real pressure, and that translates directly into visibility with the companies that are actually hiring.
What Your ₹99 Registration Covers
We kept the entry fee deliberately low — ₹99, one-time, no hidden costs — because we don't want price to be the reason a talented student sits this out. That single payment, processed securely through Razorpay, gives you access to the entire competition arc, not just a single round. Specifically, your registration includes:
- ✓Full access to all four competition rounds, from the opening DSA sprint through the Grand Finale

That's the whole pitch: one modest payment, four rounds of genuinely useful competitive pressure, and a real shot at getting on a recruiter's radar before you've even graduated.
The Four Rounds, At a Glance
AlgoNation runs across four Sundays, each testing a different dimension of what it actually means to build software professionally. We didn't want this to be a single 24-hour sleep-deprived code sprint — that format rewards stamina more than skill. Instead, we spread the competition out so each round can go deep on one specific capability.
- ✓Round 1 — Online Coding Challenge (August 16, 2026): A timed, individually-scored algorithmic assessment. Data structures, complexity analysis, and clean problem solving under a ticking clock.
- ✓Round 2 — Team Formation & Strategy (August 23, 2026): Qualifying participants are matched into teams of 3–4 through a structured process, then run through collaboration exercises and role planning.
- ✓Round 3 — In-House Project Development (August 30, 2026): An 8-hour, in-person build day. Teams get a real-world problem statement on the day and have to ship a working prototype, with mentors on-site throughout.
- ✓Round 4 — Grand Finale & Awards (September 6, 2026): Final presentations to a live industry judge panel, followed by the awards ceremony and a hiring partner networking session.
Each round acts as a filter. You don't need to win Round 1 to get value out of AlgoNation — every registered participant who completes at least the first round walks away with a certificate — but the further you progress, the more substantial the reward, both in prize money and in career access.
Who Can Register
Registration is open to any Indian student — undergraduate or postgraduate — currently enrolled at a recognised college or university, studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, Web Development, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field. You register as an individual; teams are only formed later, during Round 2, through our structured matching process. There's no need to show up with a pre-formed squad, and there's no advantage to trying to game the team assignment — the process is designed to be fair and skill-balanced.
How Registration Actually Works
We kept the registration flow as simple as we could. Clicking 'Register' anywhere on the site takes you straight to our Razorpay payment page, where you complete the ₹99 payment and submit your basic details — name, email, phone number, college, and academic year. Once that's confirmed, you'll get a confirmation email with next steps and a reminder of the Round 1 date. There's no separate approval step and no waitlist unless the 500-seat cap is reached first, in which case registration closes early regardless of the date.
One practical note: double-check your email address at registration time. Every subsequent communication — platform access instructions, round results, team assignments, and eventually certificate delivery — goes to the address you register with, so a typo there can genuinely cost you updates you don't want to miss.

Seats are allocated strictly in order of registration, and given how quickly interest has built up through our workshops and campus outreach over the last few months, we genuinely expect the seat cap to bind before the July 31 deadline does. If you're on the fence, the honest advice is: don't wait for a 'better time' — there won't be one, and every week you wait is a week of prep time you're giving up.
Frequently Asked Questions at Registration
We get a version of the same handful of questions every time registration opens, so it's worth answering the most common ones here rather than making you dig through the FAQ page separately. Do I need a team to register? No — you register as an individual, and teams are formed for you during Round 2 through a structured, skill-balanced matching process. Can I switch teams after Round 2? No, once a team is confirmed at the end of Round 2, that composition is final for the rest of the competition, which is part of why we take the matching process seriously on our end. Is the ₹99 fee refundable? It isn't, except in the case of AlgoNation cancelling the event outright — full details are on our Rules page under the Refund Policy section.
Another question we hear a lot: what if I can only attend the online rounds and not the in-person ones? Rounds 1 and 2 are fully online and open to any student anywhere in India, but Rounds 3 and 4 require in-person attendance, since Round 3 is a physical build day and Round 4 is a live presentation to the judge panel. If you know upfront that in-person attendance won't be possible for you, it's worth factoring that into your decision to register, since venue and travel logistics are only communicated to qualifying teams after Round 2 and can't be worked around after the fact.
What Happens Right After You Register
Once your payment clears, you'll get a confirmation email within a couple of hours confirming your seat and reiterating the Round 1 date and format. From there, the next thing you'll hear from us is closer to contest day — platform access instructions, a reminder to log in early to verify your environment, and a link to our free prep workshops if you haven't already used them. We deliberately don't flood registered participants with constant emails between registration and Round 1; when we do send something, it's because it's genuinely useful for contest prep, not filler.
If your seat confirmation email doesn't show up within a day of registering, check your spam folder first — payment confirmation emails from ticketing and event platforms occasionally get filtered — and if it's still missing after that, reach out to contact@algonation.org with your registered email and payment reference so our team can look into it directly.

We know four Sundays is a real ask. But we designed AlgoNation around the belief that the best way to prove you're a strong engineer isn't a resume line — it's a track record you can point to.
